Think of data science as a process of preparing meal. The following analogies should help you further in drawing a co-relation between the two:
- First step in preparing food is the collection of raw materials. Similarly, in data science the first process is collection of data from several sources using ETL tools. (Data warehousing)
- As a second step, typically you clean up and cut the vegetables. This can be compared to cleaning up of data to avoid duplicates, spelling mistakes and rectifying data to be mapped to common fields. (Data cleansing)
- Then is the process of cooking/processing the food. On the other end, this refers to the process of exploring through the data to find some hidden patterns and unknown co-relations. (Data mining)
- Lastly, you serve food in a representable way. This step related very well to the generation of reports or dashboards so that business owners are able to make sense of the data. (Data visualization)
