Since childhood, my father inculcated the habit of reading newspaper π° π° and watching news in me. As a child I used to crib over it ππ but now I understand how important that was in order to be a person that I am today.
Unfortunately, as a parent now I am scared of giving the same advice to my daughter πΆπΆ
On most days, our newspapers and television channels are filled with the following news in one way or the other:
1) People killing each other in wars
2) Targeted individuals being shot
3) Sexual atrocities on women and young children
4) Toddlers being shot in schools
5) Hopelessness of climate change initiatives
While I certainly believe that the world ππ is much better than how our respected media portrays, I wonder what if they focus more on positives or at least keep a balance. Concentrating on the worst is a cheap hack to grab πeyeballs.
People of my generation have seen the days of some ππ fantastic news readers holding onto their emotions even when the unthinkable had to be communicated. Cut to today, even the miniscule part is communicated and discussed in an overdramatic manner ππ
Btwn, my search to find a newspaper for my daughter ended with The Hindu (for School).
