Elon Musk is often credited with being too hard on his people, eventually turning the work environment to be toxic. I am aware that this is a debatable topic but there seem to be some merits of this approach that often get 👀👀 overlooked.
Steve Jobs often promoted this concept that came to be known as ‘temper tantrums’. He is infamous for giving negative feedback to his people harshly by insulting them in front of a large audience often reducing them to tears 😭😭 .
People hated him for this but by the time of his resignation, he had 97% approval rating from Apple employees. Most of them believed that his overreactions 🗣🗣 at certain things helped them understand the non-negotiable values at Apple (design).
Personally, I am not convinced that this is the best way to ensure that your team feels challenged 💪💪 but when I see such examples, they make sense.
I am not sure if I would like to be shouted at by my bosses, so I have ❌❌ never that to my team too. It might be okay to throw in a dramatic reaction to something you feel strongly about but remember to support them too.
