Fake LinkedIn profiles, like the one attached, boast about impressive (read imaginary) credentials and send thousands of connection requests at a time. Once one person accepts such a request, that strengthens the fake account’s credibility and so other LinkedIn users accept too- this cycle goes on and on!
Apparently, there have been multiple independent cases of American figures being targeted by Russian or Chinese spy operations via connections they unwittingly accepted on LinkedIn. Follow this link to know more.
